Healthy Selection Criteria - How Does it Work?
Nutrition standards
Meals/ dishes need to adhere to strict standards for total fat, saturated fat, fibre, sodium, fruit and vegetable content in order to be eligible for accreditation.
Our dietitian will analyse recipes to determine which meet the criteria. For those dishes which don’t meet one or more criteria, advice about how to improve current recipes to make them healthier choices will be given. The number of dishes you want to alter to meet healthy criteria is up to you.
Promotion
This symbol can be placed beside a dish to indicate it has been analysed by an Accredited Dietitian and adheres to the healthy choice criteria. Accredited meals can then be promoted as healthy choices which have been dietitian approved. You will be able to use our company name, Healthy Menus, and the Accredited Dietitan’s names and credentials to further promote the efforts your restaurant/cafe has taken to ensure quality, nutrition and health for you customers. Audits
To ensure all accredited meals remain healthy, annual audits will be carried out on your approved healthy menu choices by an accredited dietitian. This will provide consumer confidence as they will know you menus are being constantly monitored and supported by an Accredited Dietitian. This information will be promoted on your menu.
Simple, Easy, Affordable Accreditation
- First, determine if your restaurant, cafe or takeaway premise is eligible. If you provide table service meals or takeaway; pre-prepared or packaged foods; breakfast, lunch or dinner; starters, sides or snacks you are eligible to have your menu analysed!
- Contact us with an expression of interest. Fill in the expression of interest online form (link to contact page)
- A Recipe/ ingredient form will be provided for your chef to fill in for each dish/ recipe
- Our dietitian will analyse each dish to determine which comply with all the healthy criteria.
- Our dietitian will provide you with a selection of your dishes that can be accredited as healthy choices straight away, and therefore can be promoted as healthy choice dishes approved and accredited by a qualified dietitan.
- For those dishes which don’t comply, our Dietitian will liaise with the business owner and the head chef to make suggestions for improvements to current dishes. We can even help in the development of new healthy dishes. Changes may include slight adjustments to ingredient portions or meal portion sizes or alternative ingredients or cooking methods.
